Owners reported a median of 2,450 miles on the 6 Toyota RAV4 complaints, which means those problems showed up almost as soon as the cars were delivered. The Toyota Prius complaints sit at the other end, with a median of 94,501 miles. One Prius owner told NHTSA the hybrid battery system was refused under warranty because "an independent repair shop drained the fuel system," even though the car was still under 100,000 miles. How service work was done can therefore decide who pays for the pack.
Across all models, a quarter of reports with a mileage came by 15,000 miles and three quarters by 62,000. A car past 94,501 miles is beyond the mileage of nine in ten reports. Complaints at that point are less common in this data, but they are also more likely to fall outside coverage.
