Ford F-150 transmission downshift complaints ended in recall 26V237 for 2015-2017 trucks
The F-150 leads the owner complaints for this part, and its complaints peak on 2017-2019 models. The typical F-150 failure came near 79,900 miles, much later than the typical failure across all transmission complaints.
NHTSA opened preliminary evaluation PE25002 on 2015-2017 F-150 trucks for unintended transmission downshift and rear wheel lock-up. It was upgraded to engineering analysis EA26001, which led to recall 26V237. Ford says a lost signal between the transmission range sensor and the powertrain control module can drop the truck into second gear unexpectedly. The recall covers 1,392,935 trucks. If your truck is from those years and a shop quotes shifting or range-sensor work, run the VIN first.
Toyota C-HR transmission bills of $11,000 run past even the calculator's replacement range
C-HR owners reported an $11,000 median bill, and complaints cluster near 80,000 miles on 2018-2020 models. That figure is above the top of the calculator's replacement estimate ($3,678–$9,132 at a $120/hr shop rate). Highlander owners reported $9,000, with complaints peaking on 2019-2021 models.
A quote at these levels probably means a full replacement, possibly with other work included. It does not match the rebuild price shown by default. At a $175/hr shop rate, the calculator's rebuild range rises to $3,135–$5,565.
Jeep Cherokee and Hyundai Tucson transmission complaints arrive early in the car's life
The typical Jeep Cherokee complaint came at 27,000 miles, on 2015, 2016 and 2019 models. The typical Hyundai Tucson complaint came at just 9,500 miles, peaking on 2016-2018 models. At those mileages, many of these cars may still be under the factory powertrain warranty. Cherokee owners reported a $2,000 median bill.
